Why riders pick ICE at Laid Back Cycles

He doesn't have to push me in the wheelchair anymore. I can speed up and go places and see different things. I really love it. It gives me independence.

Why we carry ICE

ICE builds them the way I'd build one if I were back at the bench.

ICE has been building recumbent trikes in the UK for more than two decades. The welds are clean, the seats are dialed, the suspension actually works on rough pavement, and the components they spec are the ones I'd put on a trike I was keeping for myself. When a customer asks me what I'd ride if I could only have one, ICE is on the short list every time.

What ICE riders tell us once they're a few months in:

  • The ride is smooth in a way nothing else is. Suspension on the rear (and front, on some models) takes the road buzz out, so your back, hips, and shoulders aren't paying for every crack in the trail.
  • The fit is right out of the box. ICE's hard-shell and mesh seats hold the body the way it wants to be held. Riders who've been hunting comfort for years stop hunting.
  • They keep their value. ICE owners ride them for years and pass them on to other riders who ride them for years more. They are built to last and they last.

HOW TO BUY

1

Book a time.

Pick a slot on the calendar, phone or video, whichever works for you.

2

We talk about your body and your riding.

Back, knees, neck, balance, weight, riding history. Where you want to ride, how far, how often. Body first, spec sheet later.

3

We build your ICE together.

From the four ICE models we stock, we narrow it to the one that fits, then build it: seat, gearing, suspension, electric assist or not, fold or not, accessories. You see why each choice is on the list before it goes on the quote.

4

We deliver it ready to ride.

Pick it up at the shop in Sacramento, or we ship it anywhere in the country, 99% built. We FaceTime for the final bit if you need a hand.

ICE Sprint

The all-around ICE.

The trike most riders end up on when they want one trike that does almost everything.

  • Performance-leaning frame, lower seat, faster feel
  • Rear suspension takes the edge off long rides
  • Folds for transport without losing the ride quality

Starts at $5,703.

ICE Adventure

The relaxed, upright-seating ICE.

Easier on the body to get in and out of, and the trike Petra rides.

  • Taller seat height for easier transfers
  • Rear suspension and a longer wheelbase for comfort
  • Plays well with electric assist for hills and longer days

Starts at $5,938.

ICE VTX

The fast ICE.

Built for the rider who wants the speed back, without paying for it in the back, knees, or neck.

  • Low, aerodynamic seating position
  • Stiffer, more responsive frame
  • Skinny, fast-rolling tires

Starts at $6,850.

ICE Full Fat

The off-pavement ICE.

Fat tires, real suspension, and a frame that handles loose ground.

  • 4-inch-plus fat tires for sand, gravel, and dirt singletrack

  • The trike for riders who want to ride where the bike paths end

Starts at $7,089.

Common questions

Easier than the bike you learned on as a kid. You sit down, you don't have to balance, you start pedaling. Most riders are comfortable in the first five minutes. The only piece that takes a beat is the steering, and you have that figured out by the end of the parking lot.

ICE is not a $500 bike. It is a daily-use health tool built to be ridden for years. The frame, the suspension, the seat, the welds, and the components are all chosen so the trike feels right at year one and year ten. Riders who buy an ICE tend to ride it more than the bike it replaced, and they keep riding it long after.

All three make great trikes. AZUB leans modular and touring-focused. Catrike leans American-built and weight-conscious. ICE leans on ride quality, suspension, and a fit that holds up over long distances. On the call we talk about your body and your riding, and the right brand comes out of that conversation. Sometimes it is ICE, sometimes it is not, and we will tell you straight.

Most likely, yes. We have built ICE trikes for riders coming back from strokes, joint replacements, back surgeries, MS, and a long list of other things. Three wheels means no balance to worry about. The recumbent seat carries your back, hips, and shoulders so the miles don't load the places that already hurt. We work with the VA, and the adaptive build work is the work, not a side service.

ICE trikes are built to last and they last. Owners ride them for years, service them once or twice a year, and they keep performing. When they do sell, they hold their value about as well as anything in the recumbent world. You're buying a trike you'll ride, not a trike you'll replace.
