We settled on a pair of Catrike 5.5.9's.

These trikes do everything we could ask for. The 26 inch rear wheel rolls so nice on the pavement and the trike handles phenomenally. The folding feature really comes in handy and allows us to fit both trikes into our SUV (with a little creativity).

I had an excellent experience buying my first recumbent. Mickey, from their YouTube videos, happened to be there and talked me through the options after I gave him my preferences. He and his staff answered all my questions. I was encouraged to test ride a few. Narrowed down and picked one out, Catrike 559. Go here if you are interested in recumbent trikes.
