Laid Back Mickey here
Riding again after a stroke
Laid Back Mickey here. After a stroke, a lot of folks tell me a regular bike stopped feeling safe. A recumbent trike stands on three wheels. You sit in a real seat. When you stop, you just stop.
I hear from spouses and grown kids too. Their dad can't balance on a bike anymore, and they want to know if there's anything he can ride. There is. On a trike you don't balance at all.
I'm a trike guy, not a doctor. Talk to your clinician before you start riding. Every body recovers differently.
Here's what we talk through on the call. How you get on and off. Which side feels stronger. How high the seat sits and whether grab handles help. Whether a parking brake keeps things steady while you sit down. And whether a motor makes sense, so you know you'll get home.
Here's the crazy part. Riders in their 70s ask me which trike sits higher off the ground. That one matters. A higher seat is easier on the knees and hips going in and out. The ICE Adventure seat sits higher than a lot of trikes.
If your back or your seat bones hate a bike saddle, a trike fixes that too. You sit in a mesh seat with a backrest. No saddle pressure.
After our call, you measure your X-Seam at home. I'll show you how. We build the trike to your body and ship it nationwide, fully assembled and ready to ride. Fit the trike to your body. Don't fit your body to the trike.
Grab a time with me and we'll build your dream trike.
Built around you
What we set up for you
Higher seat
Easier to get in and out, so you're not dropping down into it or climbing up out of it.
Grab handles
Something solid to hold while you transfer on and off.
Parking brake
The trike stays put while you sit down and get settled.
Electric assist
You still pedal. The motor helps on hills and when your legs are done, so you know you'll make it home.

Platform pedals and other pedal choices when foot placement needs a little help. We'll pick what works for you on the call.
Mirror and flag
So you can see traffic and traffic can see you.

What I hear on the phone
Billy lives up in the mountains, about three hours from our shop. He's had a stroke, and he told us, "I'm totally disabled on my left side." So every control on his trike sits on the right. He rides it a lot. When it needed a little work, the drive was too far for him. Aaron stayed on the phone and hunted down shops closer to his house so he wouldn't have to make that trip. That's just how we take care of our riders.
Freddy has had two strokes. He called to check on his trike order, and the first thing we asked was what his body can and can't do. He said, "I have two strokes, but I was able to move all my legs and my arm." So we built it around him. Bright yellow frame, mirrors on both sides, fenders front and back, grab handles and heel straps. We also took the demo off the quote so he gets everything brand new.

Trikes for stroke recovery: questions riders ask me
A trike often works well for people dealing with stroke recovery, once their clinician says seated exercise is OK. Three wheels do the balancing. On a free Dream Trike Session we talk through transfers, your stronger side, and seat height.
Every body is different. We fit the trike to you. That might mean a higher seat, grab handles, a parking brake, or a motor. I am not a doctor. Talk to your clinician first.
The ICE Adventure seat sits higher than a lot of trikes, and that's easier on knees and hips going in and out. On the call I'll ask about your height and how you transfer, then we pick the seat.
It depends on the trike. Some sit higher, which is easier on knees and hips. Grab handles and a parking brake keep things steady while you sit down. We'll pick what works for you.
Yes. A trike stands on three wheels, so you don't balance at all. When you stop, you just stop.
At a stop, going slow, or climbing a hill, no. It stands on its own. Taking a fast corner is a different story, and I'll show you how to ride it right.
That's what a motor is for. You still pedal, and the motor helps on hills or when your legs are done. You know you'll make it home.
Yes. Talk to your clinician before you start. I'm a trike guy, not a doctor. I help with fit and the build once you're cleared for seated riding.
Yes. Most riders I work with live far from us. We fit you from home with your X-Seam, build the trike to match, and ship it nationwide ready to ride. Grab a time for a free Dream Trike Session and we'll walk through it together.
It depends on the factory. ICE usually takes 6 to 8 weeks. AZUB usually takes 6 to 9 weeks, and that comes down to how backed up the factory is when we order. On our call I'll give you the current wait.
