More About Electric Assist on Recumbent Trikes

An electric recumbent trike helps you up the hills and lets you ride farther. You still pedal. The motor helps when you need it.

If hills or long days have kept you home, this is how you get back out.

You sit back in a comfortable seat on three wheels, so it feels stable even with the motor on.

At Laid Back Cycles we carry electric trikes from four brands: ICE, AZUB, Catrike and TerraTrike. Catrike calls theirs eCAT. TerraTrike calls theirs e+.

Roy rides hills and gravel roads in New Hampshire. He wanted a trike that was easy to get in and out of. He also wanted a throttle for the days his back or knee acts up.

We built him an ICE Adventure HD with a mid drive motor, fit it to him and shipped it fully assembled.

Do I still have to pedal an electric trike?

With pedal assist, yes. You pedal and the motor helps when you need it. Some, like Roy's, also have a throttle.

Where can I try an electric recumbent trike?

Come ride one in Sacramento and try it on a hill. If you live far away, we ship nationwide.

Can I put a motor on the trike I have now?

Sometimes. Some brands sell a kit, like the TerraTrike Boost Kit. Tell us what you ride and we will tell you what fits.
